Dec. 14-18, 2009

The last week of school for 2009! We have an eventful week ahead. No spelling packet will go home this week, just daily math homework.

Thursday is our holiday party that will be from 12:15-1:15. Mrs. Weeland and Mrs. Star have been organizing this. Thank you ladies!

Friday is our field trip to the Museum of Natural History. If you are a driver, please update your insurance information. Paperwork needs to be updated every trimester (it's a district policy). Thanks for sending in the $1.00 to cover the cost. I'm just waiting for 2 more permission forms from Joselle and Athena. Chaperones, please be on time at 9:30 (the tour is from 10:00-11:00). If it is raining you may want to come a few minutes to allow for traffic from Aptos to Santa Cruz.

Thanks again for all of your support and help this year. We really appreciate it. Happy Holidays and have a wonderful break! We'll update again in January.

Dec. 7-11, 2009

Tomorrow spelling packets for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi will go home.

We received most of the field trip forms to the Museum of Natural History last week. If your child hasn't turned it in yet with $1.00, please do so this week. We also have a field trip when we come back from break on Friday, January 29, to the Aptos Museum. Permission slips won't go home until January, but if you are interested in going, mark your calenders. This trip is fairly short from around 10-11:30.

Mrs. Star and Mrs. Weeland are organizing the holiday party for Thursday, December 17. Also, a reminder that next Tuesday, the 15th, is NOT a restructured day.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Nov. 30-Dec. 4

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends! Can't believe we have only 3 weeks until winter break.

We will begin Monday morning with the AM Assembly singing "This Land is Your Land." Spelling packets for Raising Dragons will go home Monday as well as a field trip form to the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. This field trip will be on Friday, December 18 (the last day before vacation) from 9:30-11:30. If you are interested in driving, let us know. We'll need enough parents to drive 31 students. The cost of this field trip is $30 per class, so please send in $1.00 to cover the cost of the museum.

That's about all for now. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Nov. 16-20

This week the spelling packet for The Giant of Barletta will go home on Monday. Book orders are also due this Monday to Mrs. Koenig. There are many books to order at inexpensive prices, great for Christmas gifts! The kids really seem to enjoy Mad Libs. We've been doing a few in class and they're a great way to reinforce Grammar skills(verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc.) and give your child a good laugh. We appreciate all of the bonus points you earn for the class by ordering through Scholastic.

Please send report card envelopes back to school with your child on Monday. We will use these again throughout the school year. Since the 3rd grade team is doing rotations for Social Studies, Science, and Music/Art, we have decided to give only an effort grade. That is why the achievement grade was left blank.

Enjoy your weekend!

Nov. 9-13, 2009

Hope you are enjoying the nice fall weekend. This Wednesday our school will be closed due to the Veteran's holiday. Since our week is a bit shorter, we are giving a smaller spelling list of 12 words from Trickster Tales. Students are to write sentence for ALL words this week. We are also taking a little break from multiplication and moving into measurement. We will continue giving a timed multiplication test every Thursday. Each week many students are getting better and better at learning their facts. We can really see an improvement. Nice job!

Report cards will go home this Friday. Please sign and send back the envelope so we can reuse it for the next 2 trimesters.

Have a nice weekend!

Nov. 2-6, 2009

We hope your children had a safe and fun Halloween. What a treat to celebrate on a Saturday this year. Hopefully the energy will subside Monday morning and the candy has worn off a bit from the weekend.

The spelling packet for Dogzilla will go home tomorrow as well as the November reading log. Be sure to turn these in the end of every month.

Tomorrow our school will hold its Monday morning assembly with the flag salute and song. It was a success last week and students did a wonderful job. If your child is late to school, please be sure they meet the class at the upper playground. Last week there was a student waiting by the classroom as we returned back to class. Since there is no supervision at that time, they need find the class during the assembly.

Thanks for all of your help and support during the Halloween party. Students looked great in their costumes and were having fun.

Oct. 26 AM Assembly

A change in plans for the Monday morning assembly. Students are to line up in their regular spot on the primary playground. We will walk down as a class to the upper playground for the assembly.
